The Public Diplomacy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has bid farewell to Mr. Stilson Muhwezi, First Secretary, as he prepares to take up his new Tour of Duty at the Uganda Consulate in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China.
The farewell gathering, held in Kampala, brought together colleagues from the Department to recognise Mr. Muhwezi’s contribution to public diplomacy, strategic communication and the broader work of the Ministry during his time in the Department.
Reflecting on his experience, Mr. Muhwezi expressed appreciation to his colleagues for their support, professional cooperation and teamwork throughout his service, particularly during demanding periods. He highlighted the lessons gained through his work in public diplomacy and expressed readiness to apply this experience to his new assignment in China. He also acknowledged the contribution of colleagues in delivering key departmental assignments, including the Diplomatic Notes Newsletter, noting that maintaining professional standards and delivering quality communication products requires collective commitment, coordination and teamwork.
Mrs. Anne Babinaga the Head of the Public Diplomacy Department, commended Mr. Muhwezi for his contribution to the Department and encouraged him to carry forward the experience gained into his new assignment. Mrs. Babinaga emphasised that public diplomacy brings together several dimensions of international engagement, including strategic communication, cultural relations, economic and commercial diplomacy, and broader people-to-people relations. “The experience you have gained here is a strong foundation for your next assignment. The ability to bring different aspects of diplomacy together is an important skill that will continue to serve you wherever you are posted,” Mrs. Babinaga noted.
Colleagues also recognised Mr. Muhwezi’s commitment to teamwork, professional learning and the delivery of departmental assignments. They encouraged him to build on the knowledge and experience gained in the Public Diplomacy Department as he begins his new chapter in Guangzhou. His posting comes at a time when Uganda and China continue to strengthen bilateral relations across diplomatic, economic, commercial, cultural and people-to-people engagements.
As he embarks on his new Tour of Duty, the Public Diplomacy Department wished Mr. Muhwezi success and fulfilment in his assignment and expressed appreciation for his service, professionalism and contribution to the Department.
